First prize

Lexie Krakowski, Elgar Cello Concerto

Lexie Krakowski is in her eleventh year of cello studies at the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM). After attending a music discovery camp at the VCM, where she spent a week becoming acquainted with the violin and cello, Lexie was inspired by some of the camp faculty and decided to enroll at the VCM. Years later, Lexie has since been a student of Paula Kiffner and Karen Whyte, currently studying with Brian Yoon. She is also in her seventh year as a member of the VCM Collegium Young Artists Program, as well as her third year in the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra.

Lexie has received numerous awards and scholarships from the VCM and the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, and has won at the provincial level in both solo and chamber music categories. Lexie has won the Louis Sherman Concerto Competition as well as the Roberto and Mary Wood Scholarship Competition. Additionally, she was honoured to have won the SPO’s Don Chrysler Competition with her performance of the Elgar Cello Concerto in 2020. Lexie has been fortunate enough to attend summer programs such as the Meadowmount School of Music and the Orford Academy, and has been featured as a soloist with the VCM Orchestra, Victoria Chamber Orchestra, and Sidney Classical Orchestra.

Lexie is currently in grade 12 at Oak Bay High School, and planning to pursue a degree in cello performance next year. She hopes to make a career in performance, continuing to share her passion for music with her audience.
